Yuzuru Takashima received the B.S. degree in physics from Kyoto University, Japan, in 1990 and the M.S.E.E. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 2002.  From 1990 till 2000, he served as a Research Specialist at Toshiba Corporation, Japan, working on ultra precision optical components and their manufacturing methods.  From 1997 till 1999, he joined a team of the DARPA funded project on holographic data storage systems (HDSSs) as a Visiting Researcher at Stanford University and developed lens systems for HDSS.  He is currently a Ph.D. student in electrical engineering at Stanford University working on optical system designs for bit-based and page-based HDSSs under super vision of Professor Lambertus Hesselink.
