Stamper Creation for Next Generation Media Bob Olson, Record Products of America

Abstract As the replication industry begins to prepare for the release of the new high density media formats, there is a coming awareness that the media's challenging specifications will affect every aspect of the manufacturing process and involve a technology update even greater than that involved in the transition from CD to DVD.
While the debate on LBR technology continues, and facilities look at new molding technology; there is also a need to look at stamper creation technology that has changed little since the advent of CD. HD DVD and Blu-ray requires that facilities evaluate their electroforming, stamper punching and stamper back polishing capabilities as they are now important components in meeting the demanding disc specifications of these new formats. RPA has been working closely with our customers to develop an integrated process solution for electroforming, punching, and back polishing to meet the stringent demands of these new formats.
Biography Bob Olson has been involved in delivering technology solutions to the digital content distribution industry for over 20 years. He was software distribution sales manager for KAO Info systems before joining Trace/Nakamichi where he as a regional sales manager and product champion for optical disc technology. He joined Doug Carson and Associates in the early days of DVD and was VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. His interest and market knowledge in encoding and mastering solutions made him a frequent contributor to One-to-One and Tape Disc business and consulted with companies looking at web enabled digital media solutions such as DVDemand. He joined Tape Disc Business as VP/General Manager and was a regular columnist in Tape Disc Business and moderator for RepliTech. He has also presented at DVD Summit, DVD Pro, DVD forum, and numerous other conferences.
Bob joined RPA to be involved with the release of their new line of Blu-ray and HD-DVD stamper finishing products including their vertical head plating system, low eccentricity NanoPunch, Stamper wet polishing system and ECC Optical checking system.
