Stamper Creation for Next Generation Media
Bob Olson, Record Products of America

Abstract
As the replication industry begins to prepare for the release of the new high density media formats, there is a coming awareness that the media's challenging specifications will affect every aspect of the manufacturing process and involve a technology update even greater than that involved in the transition from CD to DVD.

While the debate on LBR technology continues, and facilities look at new molding technology; there is also a need to look at stamper creation technology that has changed little since the advent of CD. HD DVD and Blu-ray requires that facilities evaluate their electroforming, stamper punching and stamper back polishing capabilities as they are now important components in meeting the demanding disc specifications of these new formats. RPA has been working closely with our customers to develop an integrated process solution for electroforming, punching, and back polishing to meet the stringent demands of these new formats.
