Synopsis:

Consumer use of recordable optical disc always relates back to its original purpose: storage, distribution and playback of AV content, whether it is high def playback of e-photos, HD camcorder footage, storage and distribution of downloaded HD movies, and so on. To make recordable products meaningful for consumers, there must be a widely accepted publishing format and a large installed base of players to create a ubiquitous sharing/playback platform. Blu-ray is the HD publishing format leading the way for consumers and will open up new applications in other markets.

Molding Technologies for Blu-ray Disc™

Synopsis:

AWM’s technology demonstration will focus on the molding technologies used for the production of Blu-ray Discs. In the first section of the presentation, basic and advanced technologies for the molding the substrate will be discussed in great depth. In the second section of the presentation, basic analogies and principles derived in the first part will be related to the mechanical part of the wet embossing technology. 
The combined technologies presented in sections 1 and 2 form the basis of the dual layer Blu-ray Disc™ as produced with AWM’s molds. These technologies are of great practical interest, as exactly these technologies have been employed in the field to mass-produce discs approved by not only Sony DADC but also the official BDA Testing Center.
